GUIDE 1

Welcome and farewell messages

Design appropriate messages and embeds for joins and exits.

4 mins

Configure message

  1. 1

Open Welcome or Goodbye in the dashboard.

  2. 2

    Select the target channel.

  3. 3

Write a short message and optionally design the embed.

  4. 4

Save and test the output with a test account.

Use wildcards

Welcome and Goodbye messages support wildcards such as {user}, {username}, and {server}, depending on the field. Only use placeholders that are listed in the editor or preview.

Member avatar in Welcome embeds

New Welcome configurations include English example text for the title and description. Adapt it to your community.

  1. 1

Set the Welcome message type to “Embed”.

  2. 2

Keep “Use member avatar as thumbnail” enabled to show the joining member’s avatar as the small thumbnail.

  3. 3

Turn the option off to use the thumbnail configured in the embed instead.

GUIDE 2

Automatic role assignment

Assign member roles with age limit and delay.

3 mins

Assign roles

Autoroles can assign separate roles for members and bots. Select the roles in the Autoroles module and set a delay or minimum age of the Discord account if necessary.

  1. 1

    Create a clear member role.

  2. 2

Make sure Who is above the target scroll.

  3. 3

Configure optional delay or minimum age.

  4. 4

Try joining with a new test account.

Check role hierarchy

Discord only allows the bot to assign roles below its highest role. A correctly set role in the dashboard alone is not enough if the Discord hierarchy blocks it.

GUIDE 3

Role choice for members

Offer reaction and button roles in an understandable way.

4 mins

Publish a role choice

Role panels give members a controlled opportunity to take on selected roles themselves. Design labels and descriptions so that it is clear what each role represents.

  • Only offer roles that members can choose for themselves.
  • Avoid roles with moderation or administrative rights.
  • Check bot role position and channel permissions before publishing.

After publication

Test each selection with a non-admin account. Check that adding and removing roles works as intended and that the panel message is in the correct channel.

GUIDE 4

Reaction rolls or button rolls?

Choose the appropriate operation and explain the selection limits clearly.

3 mins

Two ways to choose roles

Who provides separate modules for reaction roles and button roles. Both use a published message, an embed, and a list of up to 20 role options. The selection can be limited to members with specific roles.

  • Reaction roles are suitable if you want to select via emoji reactions.
  • Button roles make sense if the role selection should be tied directly to buttons.
  • Activate “Exclusive” if members from this selection are only allowed to have one role at a time.

Publish changes securely

  1. 1

    Select channel and role options.

  2. 2

    Preview captions and emojis.

  3. 3

    Publish or update the panel.

  4. 4

Test adding and removing each role with a normal account.

GUIDE 5

Verification before server access

Prepare roles and channels so that the activation path remains understandable.

4 mins

Establish role model

  1. 1

Create an unverified role and a verified role.

  2. 2

Give new members the unverified role via Discord onboarding or another existing joining flow.

  3. 3

Restrict server channels for unverified members and allow access to the verification channel.

  4. 4

In the Verification module, select panel channel, method and verified role.

  5. 5

Publish the panel and test the process with a fresh account.

If the activation does not work

Check whether Who can manage the role and whether its highest role is above the verified role. Also, control channel overrides: Denying visibility at the category level can still block individual channels.
